Bulgari’s Miracle

It feels like I only ever post about Swedish music and Animal Collective these days, but oh well. Italo-siren Sally Shapiro‘s gorgeously dramatic new single “Miracle” is available now. This is the remix by Bogdan Irkük (aka BULGARI). He gives it the same glistening disco-jam treatment he gave to Jens Lekman’s “Sipping on the Sweet Nectar” last year (there I go with the Swedes again!). (more…)

Gothenburg Belongs to Who Now???

Still catching up on things I missed last week. I feel a turf war fast approaching in Sweden, folks. Air France seem to have laid claim to the land of Gothenburg with new single “GBG Belongs to Us,” much in the same way Saint Etienne laid claim to London over a decade ago with “London Belongs to Us” (and it did). Simiam Mobile Disco: “Audacity of Huge” Music Video

I’m fairly certain this song wouldn’t work nearly as well without Chris Keating from Yeasayer on vocals, but why look a gift horse in the mouth? This is the video and it’s a little too on the nose for my liking, but that’s just me.

You know I’ve got that Peter Tosh…

Fever Ray: “Triangle Walks” Music Video

As previously reported, the next single from Karin Dreijer-Andersson’s intoxicating solo debut as Fever Ray, “Triangle Walks,” will be released on June 23.  This is the video for it, and it’s pretty much like other ones from the album so far: Ominous, surreal, and spell-binding.

We’re (Memory) Tapes

The mysterious musical entities known in the blogosphere as Weird Tapes and Memory Cassette, assuming they were ever separate to begin with, have now joined forces to become Memory Tapes. Clever, huh? (more…)

The Gossip: “Heavy Cross” Music Video

I try to refrain from gay hyperbole as much as possible, but Beth Ditto is all kinds of fabulous in this video for new Gossip song (single?) “Heavy Cross.” It’s from their long-gestating new album Music for Men (out June 22) and it’s definitely a win. Funky, fierce and rocking an almost Moroder-esque guitar arpeggio. I thought hearing the Fred Falke remix first might sour my opinion of the original. WRONG. But enough about the song. Here’s the video. FAB-U-LOUS.

Pop That Y-Rocks

My latest radio show aired online this weekend on Y-Rock on XPN. It featured new music from Dirty Projectors, Sonic Youth, and Health as well as tracks by Deerhunter, Memory Cassette, and more. Keep reading for the full playlist. (more…)

Animal Collective: “Summertime Clothes” Music Video

Everytime I promise myself not to post anything else on these guys, they find a way to sucker me back in. Bastards. Check out this video for new single and my personal MPP fave (aside from “My Girls,” of course). It’s pretty wet and wild.

The Pleasure is All Mine

Per Sally and Johan’s own words, My Guilty Pleasure, the highly anticipated (by me at least) to Sally Shapiro’s wistfully gorgeous Disco Romance is “currently at the pressing plant” and slated for release on August 25 (with LP availability this time, yay!). In addition the usual awesomeness that is Johan Agebjörn, the album will also feature Cloetta Paris and Tensnake in some form, as well as a return songwriting appearance from Roger Gunnarsson.

Tracklisting is below. (more…)

Daily Routine: Phaseone

While I’m on a roll with remixes today, everyone is geeking out over this remix of Animal Collective‘s “Daily Routine” by Phaseone, and I’m inclined to agree with them. (more…)
