so yeah corin tucker has her debut solo album 1,000 years coming out on october 5 (welcome back to kill rock stars corin!). as a lifelong sleater-kinney fan, i feel understandably elated. as should you all, especially since we’ve got our first taste of the album via a free song called “doubt.” it offers the best of both worlds for devotees of her prior band. opening with stuttering stabs of riot-grrl-recalling guitar and drums, it explodes into a punky, old-school rock strut before a mid-song break welcomes a gleaming organ and clap track. tucker’s quivering warble presides over everything splendidly.

take a listen and get excited.

UPDATE: bah! turns out the track is actually called “doubt.”

for ash

hell. yes. modern guitar goddess marnie stern will release her self-titled third album october 5 on kill rock stars (between this and corin tucker’s solo release, that’s going to be a damn good day). it’ll once again feature zach hill on drums as well as women’s matthew flegel on bass.

here is “for ash,” the album’s thrilling opener. call me crazy but i’m getting kind of a sleigh bells meets battles vibe from this.
